University of British Columbia, Biomedical Research Centre Renovation
Breakthroughs have taken place in harvesting the incredible promise of cell therapy and the regenerative potential of the human body—the researchers at the Biomedical Research Centre (BRC) are taking strides to remain at the forefront of stem cell and regenerative medicine.
Renovations to the fourth floor of BRC were necessary to meet the requirements for a new research candidate. The 4,410 square foot Biocontainment Level 2 Lab renovation will build an interdisciplinary shared resource lab furthering stem cell research as a potential source of cells for cell-based therapeutics. The Stem Cell Research Laboratory in BRC will enable research in the development of a mechanism-based platform for stem cell bioprocess development, utilizing engineering-based approaches like modeling, molecular engineering and bioreactor design to enable stem cell-based therapies and technologies and thus positively impact upon health and welfare.
We designed and provided construction administration services for renovations to the Biocontainment Level 2 Lab, equipped with state-of-the-art cell and molecular biology equipment. This project included the removal of obsolete equipment and provision of infrastructure for new advanced research equipment, along with upgrades of all room finishes including lab benching and the provision of offices and workstations for research teams.
