Using as much free and renewable energy as possible through electromechanical systems
The Université de Sherbrooke’s Longueuil campus tower offers a completely new living environment for its 6,000-strong community of students and teachers. The complex comprises classrooms, laboratories, administrative spaces, a food court, and student and staff services, in addition to commercial, community, and academic space. The tower offers easy access, with the adjoining public atrium connecting the building to a metro station and the city’s bus terminal.
We designed the building’s electromechanical systems to use as much free and renewable energy as possible. The two recovery chillers help reduce the building’s heating load while recovering the internal heat gains and redistributing this heat in the low-temperature heating system. The project also included a total of 37 geothermal wells, each 183 metres deep. The innovations integrated into the building enable it to reduce its energy consumption by 45% compared with a conventional system.
