North Peace Regional Airport Asset Management Forecasting - Phase One

Safe and effective airport operations depend on well-maintained infrastructure and resources. Managing airport assets is crucial—especially in Northern British Columbia’s busy airport that serves the community of Fort St. John. To address future growth, the North Peace Regional Airport launched an asset management program to guide its long-term capital plan. They engaged us to help with the first phase of their facility assessment.

In phase one, we collaborated with airport staff to use existing data to evaluate the state of good repair for both landside and airside infrastructure. This process involved creating detailed asset inventories and assessing current asset management and maintenance practices. To do this, we conducted thorough inspections and assessments of above-ground assets. We also evaluated the condition of below-ground landside and airside infrastructure using existing data. Our work encompassed assessing buildings, building systems, lighting, electrical systems, pavements on roads and runways, water distribution, wastewater collection, and stormwater drainage.

Based on these evaluations, we developed capital forecasts for renewing and replacing both above and below-ground landside and airside infrastructure by considering the condition assessments we completed and the remaining useful life of the infrastructure. We also provided recommendations for additional condition assessments to address data gaps for future capital planning.

By implementing this proactive approach, the North Peace Regional Airport’s team can maintain assets more effectively. They can meet the demands of increased air traffic, cargo, passenger traffic, and regulatory requirements in this thriving Northern region.
