Keep traffic moving efficiently
The prominent four way stop in Radium Hot Springs once intersected two key corridors for the movement of goods and people within British Columbia: Highways 93 and 95. Heavy congestion and lengthy backups during peak travel periods frustrated travelers and detracted tourists from accessing amenities in the community. The province determined a roundabout would reduce travel time, improve traffic, and provide the overall safest option—our team was there to help.
We were contracted to provide construction supervision and contract administration for the pre- to post-construction schedule. Working collaboratively with the client, contractor, Shuswap Indian Band, stakeholders, and the village of Radium, the team was able to resolve issues surrounding signage, utilities, request for field fitted modifications, and traffic incidents. Despite a constrained project footprint and tight timeline, the roundabout opened ahead of schedule in Fall 2020. The roundabout is key to the safe and efficient diversion of traffic from the Kicking Horse Phase 4 Canyon project highway closures.
In January 2022, Stantec was recognized with the 2021 Award for Construction Management & Supervision Services from British Columbia’s Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure.
