A different way of supervising a job site
The interchange at Henri-IV (A-73) and Félix-Leclerc (A-40) highways in Quebec City is a critical area through which an average of 100,000 vehicles transit every day. To increase efficiency and flow—as well as improve safety on the highway infrastructure—the ministère des Transports du Québec (Quebec Ministry of Transportation - MTQ) decided to redevelop the interchange, adding traffic lanes, repositioning the on and off ramps, and reconfiguring the junction of the two highways.
Our team, working in a consortium with Norda Stelo, supervised the major work on the highway engineering, civil engineering structures, traffic management and signage, highway lighting and cameras, environment, and landscape architecture. The project team developed innovative solutions for the major project, including controlling the temperature of the concrete in the massive bridge components and using semi-adiabatic boxes to determine the hydration heat of the concrete.
Through tight coordination of the numerous stakeholders and the use of a collaborative digital app, the team was able to increase job site efficiency, which helped reduce the impacts of the work on highway users and bring the new on and off ramps into service a year earlier than planned in the original project schedule, making travel through Quebec City more efficient for thousands of commuters every day.
