Modernizing and expanding a port’s offerings
The Port Macquarie Hastings Council (PMHC) wanted to add new maritime structures at Port Macquarie Boat Harbour. They reached out to our team to help.
We assessed the condition of the existing derelict wharf and fishermen’s co-op, including a diving inspection of the existing steel piles, then created a detailed design for a new timber wharf for public use. PMHC then expanded our scope to include detailed design of three other maritime facilities as part of the overall foreshore masterplan.
Our detailed designs of all structures included layout of services, design of rock revetment, geotechnical interpretation, and landside surveys. The adopted designs involved demolition of the existing structures, installation of new piles for jetties, boardwalk, and pontoon. We also replaced the rock revetment, a cast-in-situ abutment, and timber jetties and added a fiber reinforced panel mini-mesh low landing to the unloading wharf.
In addition to the new wharf for fishing and passive recreational activities, the port now offers a mooring area for two vessels, a trafficable unloading wharf, and a boardwalk extension.
