Waking Perth City after a century—reuniting the central business district with fun-loving Northbridge
For 100 years, the center of Perth was bisected by its rail line. To remedy this, the City of Perth promoted the development of strategic sites in an AUD$1.4 billion project. Perth Hub reconnects Perth’s central business district with bustling Northbridge, creating a new destination in the heart of the city. Working closely with developer Far East Consortium, we helped overcome numerous challenges in the design and construction of 314 apartments, 1,200 square metres (12,917 square feet) of retail space, and a 250-suite Dorsett Hotel.
We assessed the congested electrical, communications, water, and roads infrastructure and provided an engineered solution to align site connections. Collaborating by using building information modeling (BIM) software helped us reduce the space needed for the electrical plant and ventilation and to simplify connections across the development. Our acoustic, lighting, mechanical, and fire services specialists also contributed to the intricate façade.
A life-cycle assessment and climate adaptation plan played a central role in attaining the 5-Star Green Star Design Certification. This involved strategies such as solar, air tightness, energy efficiency, and environmental footprint reduction, all aimed at providing a functional, resilient building in extreme events.
Anticipating over one million visitors a year, Perth Hub and Dorsett Hotel offer luxury and vibrancy in a central location, just a few steps from commerce, arts and culture, nightlife, shopping, and nature.
