Providing strategic geotechnical advice
Starting at Port Macquarie and extending inland to the west, Oxley Highway stretches 514 kilometres (319 miles). After three complex landslides occurred along the highway, our team of geotechnical engineers were called in to help.
With a particular focus on constructability, budget constraints and the clients’ preferences, we’ve been engaged to complete geotechnical investigations, options assessment, and strategic design. The team found data gaps within the existing geotechnical data and carried out tailored data collection exercises, including difficult to access locations using portable drilling rigs. The additional investigations allowed verification of the conceptual geotechnical model prior to progressing to the strategic design stage.
We developed design options and constructability and safety-in-design cost estimates to inform the feasibility of identified options. Our team presented at client workshops to facilitate option selection and to develop these options into detailed designs. When then work is complete, the Oxley Highway will once again be safe for travelers.
