Improving and supporting Sydney's road network, one corridor at a time
Road Network Plans (RNP) form part of a 20-year strategy to guide the safe, efficient, and sustainable development of the strategic road networks in the Greater Metropolitan Sydney region. As part of 60+ RNPs over a three-year program, Stantec partnered with Transport for New South Wales to deliver seven of these network plans.
This recent package included four RNPs in Sydney’s north east. All plans are required to be completed through the Road Planning Framework provided by Roads and Maritime Services and be aligned with the strategic outcomes of a number of state and local planning documents. To provide the client with added efficiencies, our team developed coding to analyse large amounts of data allowing us to manage and audit our assumptions within a fraction of the usual processing time.
Through analysing the current performance and future conditions of the corridors, we were able to provide a series of solutions that not only offered practical recommendations, but also contribute to the NSW government’s road network vision of more efficient road space allocation, and improving sustainability and liveability through the ‘Movement and Place’ framework.
