Re-establishing vital transportation links and futureproofing floodways after a severe tropical storm event
In 2017 severe tropical cyclone Debbie was the strongest tropical cyclone to strike Queensland since Marcia in 2015 and was the costliest in Australia since Yasi in 2011. The damage to the State’s floodways was profound.
How did we help? We provided detailed designs for the first nine floodways and contract administration and verification services personnel during the construction phase. We were responsible for the road geometric design, new concrete floodways and culvert designs, new pavement, road furniture and general earthworks. During the construction phase, we provided contract administration and surveillance services. Our monitoring services helped the principal contractor to complete effective and high-quality works.
The design included foam bitumen, which produces flexible and highly durable base layers when building new roads, and stabilized pavement with concrete edge beams to ensure the reconstructed floodways’ could withstand future floodwaters.
