Coordinating integrated engineering services in a live learning environment requires outstanding communication and detailed design
Located near Perth’s central business district, Churchlands Senior High School is an independent public school that needed an expansion and facility improvements. Communication would be key to fully integrate services and safely deliver the phased project in a live student environment.
Our civil, hydraulic, and mechanical engineers consulted on construction while ensuring the school’s activities continued. Coordination was important where reticulation was designed to accommodate structural deep beams and edge beams built to withstand earthquake and high wind loadings. Our mechanical teams used a mix of air-conditioning, evaporative cooling, and gas heating to achieve comfort. Exhaust ventilation including dust extraction for wood-working classrooms was also provided to the appropriate labs and service areas. The hydraulics team undertook a fire service upgrade while the civil team liaised to connect new sewer extensions to existing wastewater mains.
Ultimately, new buildings were constructed for science and arts, technology and enterprise, general teaching and a sports hall. Refurbishment of existing building areas improved the experience within the administration, student and staff services areas, canteen, health center, and performing arts room.
