Helping address complex environmental, ecological and drainage challenges to bring forward a major land reclamation scheme

When our client, Miller Argent, was tasked with mining quality coal in an area of land that was derelict, unstable and unsightly, they turned to us for help. Our job? To help them create an improved environment that benefits local people, hill farming, and wildlife.

Our team was hired to facilitate a range of services, including addressing complex environmental, ecological and drainage challenges as well as undertaking accurate air quality studies throughout this constantly changing landscape. With this, we created a new model based on our transport experience that used techniques from the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges. This approach was adopted by others in the mining industry.

Once finished, there will be 910 acres of land fit for upland grazing, access to green spaces for use by the community, and greater biodiversity. Planning permission was granted in 2005 and, as a direct result, high quality jobs were created for approximately 200 people—with over 80 percent living within 10 miles of the site.
