Improving roadway infrastructure while embellishing the village’s historic charm
Waterbury, a historic village with classic New England charm, had been experiencing severe infrastructure shortcomings along the main corridor of its business district—Main Street. This heavily used vital artery was crumbling and its utility infrastructure had become unreliable with age.
Vermont Agency of Transportation (VTrans) turned to our team to restore this aging roadway and rejuvenate its surrounding streetscape. Our transportation infrastructure designs included a thoughtful approach to utility relocations with the goal of minimizing impacts on day-to-day life. New water and sewer mains were strategically sited so that existing mains could remain active during construction. The designs were also proactive in minimizing traffic slowdowns in the project area by maintaining adequate separation distances. Further, our plans allow the contractor to methodically construct the project in four minimally disruptive segments.
With completion slated for the summer of 2021, these infrastructure and aesthetic upgrades will allow local and nearby residents to continue using Main Street regularly for both work and play, to travel within town, or to pass through to other destinations.
