Finding design inspiration in historical fishing villages and salt ponds
Committed to creating a healthier Hawaii, our client recognized the need for patient-centered Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT) care in the Kaka'ako neighborhood of Honolulu. They engaged us to provide interior design services for the new space at Waterfront Plaza.
Once comprised of fishing villages and salt ponds, the community has a historical connection to water that’s reflected in our design for the finishes, graphics, and artwork. We designed the interior to include two modern audio booths, twelve nurse stations, ten fully-integrated exam rooms, physician offices along the perimeter, and an independent break room. Looking out at Honolulu Harbor, the design makes the most of unobstructed views while harnessing the power of daylighting. Natural lighting reduces the amount of artificial light required, reduces electricity costs, and improves occupant comfort, health, and productivity. Our team paid special attention to the artwork, commissioning a local photographer to create cohesively curated artwork for the open waiting area, all enclosed spaces, and along each corridor.
Ultramodern diagnostic and audiological equipment is elegantly housed within the cohesive interior plan. The result? A warm, welcoming environment for patients that’s functional and collaborative for staff.
