Urban planning can get the most out of your town center
When the City of Milton set out to create a new downtown core—including a new city hall—Heritage Walk was a central piece to their urban design plans. The new roadway would serve as the main access to the Milton City Hall and include two roundabouts. The goal? To improve traffic flow through the area and provide alternate routes for local traffic.
We were brought in to perform traffic analysis and roadway design for Heritage Walk and the two proposed roundabouts (Crabapple Road at Crabapple Chase Drive and Birmingham Highway at Heritage Walk), as well as drainage analysis for the downtown core. The project also required a National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) document, which subsequently resulted in design modifications to avoid several historical parcels. All designs were compliant with the Georgia Department of Transportation Design Policy Manual.
This project is now open to traffic with two multi-lane roundabouts and a shared use path. It enhances mobility options by extending the local trail network and serves as a showcase of Milton’s downtown core.
