Installing new airfield electrical elements—including a new beacon, navigational aids, and an electrical vault

The Southbridge Municipal Airport in Massachusetts had deteriorating airside infrastructure that needed repairs. With regulatory standards and best practices that continuously evolve, especially when it comes to airport safety, complying with the latest U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) requirements and standards were important goals for our client. They engaged us to provide initial planning, environmental permitting, data collection, final design, and construction phase services for the reconstruction of Runway 2-20 and parallel Taxiway A.

Our work included planning and design to give new life to the airfield pavements on the runway and taxiway—we reconfigured the entrance and exit taxiways and relocated the midfield exit taxiway. We also provided design services to replace runway and taxiway edge lighting with new LED lights, base cans, conduits, transformers, and home run circuitry. Additional electrical improvements include a new airport beacon, new navigational aids, new regulators, and a new airport electrical vault.

As a result of our services, the airport’s safety areas and drainage infrastructure now comply with FAA regulations.
