Designing a 4,200 square foot skatepark to be set on the Hudson River
With Memorial Par, Nyack’s 11-acre premier park, undergoing significant renovations, the city and the community of skaters agreed that a 4,200 square foot, wheel-friendly plaza should be designed and integrated into an existing sports complex. We stepped in to help.
Set on the Hudson River, we created a central corridor ribbon half pipe cuts diagonally through the skate park—it was inspired by the iconic bridge architecture seen throughout Nyack and serves as the park's main attraction.
Community meetings and heavy fundraising by lead advocate and park founder Sarah Anderson included donations from the Tony Hawk Foundation, a concert from the local iconic punk band The Misfits, and the Deckade Art show silent auction.
The vision and construction of this facility is now a reality and can be enjoyed by all ages. As Sarah said, “If you’ve been to Nyack, you know that it’s a quirky and impressively diverse village. Skateboarding fits perfectly here.”
