We’re helping to develop increased financial security for rural families depending on small-scale agriculture
To promote climate resilient communities in Niger, we’re helping the United States government’s Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) oversee the implementation of the $96 million Climate-Resilient Communities Project, part of MCC’s overall $437 million investment in the country. Our partnership aims to increase the incomes of families in eligible rural areas who depend on small-scale agriculture and raising livestock. This involves improving crop and livestock productivity and sustainably managing the natural resources and small infrastructure essential for such productivity.
In our role as infrastructure advisor, we are assisting MCC with developing the framework and methodology to assess community-level investments in small-scale infrastructure. We are also helping ensure that these investments are designed with smallholder farmers, pastoralists and rural communities in mind. By making them more resilient to climate change, more water secure, and more capable of accessing value chains, their livelihoods improve. We are also playing a key role in working with MCC to effectively manage costs and schedules over a diverse project portfolio, maximizing a return on investment.
