Providing innovative cancer treatment therapies and premium patient care while promoting research and education
Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center has a mission: provide state-of-the-art cancer treatment therapies and patient care alongside research and education. A new outpatient surgery facility, the Josie Robertson Surgery Center, is presently serving that need.
This new ambulatory surgery building serves patients who, traditionally, are admitted as inpatients after surgery. Now, those patients will have the opportunity to undergo the same procedures in an outpatient setting. Across 15 floors, the design includes 12 operating rooms (four of which will be for robotic surgery), 46 pre-op and recovery rooms, an oxygen farm, and all necessary services. Separate elevators will serve the public, the operating rooms, and central sterile supply.
We established the project’s delivery method through a guaranteed maximum price (GMP). Schematic design, design development, and construction document project estimates accompanied each phase to maintain a transparent view of total project construction costs for the client.
In addition to dispensing cancer care for patients, the new facility also provides an academic research and training platform that will help to advance cancer treatments in medical centers throughout the world.
