Consolidating offices and ensuring comfort, accessibility, and safety
CPS Energy was ready to relocate and upgrade its headquarters, consolidating many of its satellite offices throughout San Antonio into one central location. They engaged our team to perform research on seven potential options, ultimately choosing to redevelop a site along the famous San Antonio Riverwalk. But the site was not without its challenges.
Our team worked closely with CPS Energy to convert existing overhead poles throughout the site to underground service, helping to beautify the area and allowing for maximum build out of the property. We navigated around the existing subterranean flood control tunnel that ran 80 feet below grade through the site, rerouting existing feeder storm drains that tied into the San Antonio River Walk. Our team even provided grant writing services and secured CPS Energy a rebate from the San Antonio River Authority (SARA) for these efforts.
Ultimately, the full build-out of the project included the renovation of two high-rise buildings and the addition of a six-level parking garage and retail space at one corner of the ground level. City code dictated we include low impact development techniques in the design. Our landscape architecture team was able to preserve existing trees throughout the site and utilize native plants and grasses, reducing the amount of permanent irrigation required. We also designed a water quality cistern in the parking garage to catch rainwater and irrigate the adjacent landscaping.
This project was certified LEED Gold.
