Enhancing pedestrian, bicycle, and transit circulation and safety
One of the busiest transportation hubs in the nation, the City of Jersey City is actively engaging in multiple initiatives to enhance pedestrian, bicycle, and transit circulation and safety throughout the city. They engaged us to help. As on-call traffic engineers, we’ve performed multiple traffic engineering task orders to help the City realize their mission of improved safety and mobility throughout their transportation infrastructure.
Our services have included road diet analyses (for changing and improving existing roadways), signal timing enhancements, and signal warrant analyses (to determine if a traffic signal is needed). We’ve also performed before and after condition studies, concept plans and feasibility assessments, as well as signing and striping plans for pedestrian and bicycle enhancements. Since 2019, we’ve helped the City deploy over 20 miles (32 kilometres) of new and improved pedestrian and bicycle facilities through a quick-build process.
Jersey City was the first city in the State of New Jersey to commit to the Vision Zero initiative, which recognizes traffic-related severe injuries and fatalities as unacceptable and preventable—and we’re helping them reach their Vision Zero safety goal.
