Pursuing an opportunity to define Connecticut’s transportation future
Supporting innovative ideas is central to the work we do—with our Greenlight program, we can give funding to brilliant ideas that help both our clients and the communities we work in. For this project, our team received funding to help clients determine the feasibility of, and develop a plan for, automated shuttle implementation in New Haven, Connecticut.
One of our partners is the City of New Haven, which could be one of four Connecticut municipalities to take part in the State’s Fully Autonomous Vehicle Testing Pilot Program (FAVTPP). For this project, we’ve partnered with Yale University, Yale New Haven Health System, and the City of New Haven, and the New Haven Parking Authority. We’re developing a self-driving shuttle implementation plan that will provide greater access to Yale New Haven Hospital campuses and parking facilities, observe how automated vehicles (AV) perform under real-world conditions and meet user needs, and gain AV operations experience to create a long-term AV strategy. We’ve also created a safety and communications strategy for safe shuttle adoption.
We’ve engaged emergency response and traffic safety groups, disability commission representatives, and university staff and faculty to give unique perspectives that will help us develop a comprehensive AV plan for a successful FAVTPP submission.
