We supported the council’s development arm and contractor through to the completion of this residential-focused regeneration
Copley Close is a 1970s estate which needed refurbishing and modernising to positively impact the well-being of its residents and provide better homes for them. This would be a 60-year programme with the goal of completing more than 700 new and refurbished homes.
Stantec was appointed to lead an integrated team of subconsultants delivering multidisciplinary engineering, along with environmental assessment services. The linear nature of the site and layout of its current buildings had a mixture of building typologies and heating delivery mechanisms from individual boilers to communal boilers and a centralised heating system.. From a Civil/ Structural perspective a number of design solutions were developed ranging from refurbishment and load-bearing masonry to medium density concrete framed construction. Our MEP/ Energy strategy introduced an energy centre with a combined heat and power plant (CHP) for parts of the site where it would be viable—determined by the investigation of life cycle cost of heat delivery systems.
By creating spaces that are both safe and green, we helped the London Borough of Ealing improve existing homes and provide better new homes for current and future residents of Copley Close.
