An award-winning project that is aiming to raise the bar on sustainable development in Canada
For many years, the downtown waterfront of Chaudière and Albert Island have been a testament to Ottawa’s industrial history. In 2017, Dream Unlimited and Theia Partners began a 10-year plan to redevelop the abandoned 34-acre (13.8-hectare) property which straddles Ontario and Quebec, crafting a master-planned community that is on the cutting edge of sustainable development—a community that will become home to over 5,000 people to live, work, and play.
We were contracted to produce topographic and boundary surveys of the property, and we continue to be engaged for additional surveys including environmental, road and routes, and digital terrain modeling.
Unfortunately, a northeast section of the island deteriorated, and the team realized a long-term solution was needed to prevent future loss—a wall and infill to buttress the coast of the island. Working with a subcontractor, we performed a scan of the escarpment as well as an underwater survey, creating a 3D model to determine the future placement of the piles for the wall.
Once the study is complete, the area will be stabilized, becoming more resistant to future erosion. In its place, a beautiful city park for the community is planned along with underground parking below.
