An award-winning place to land
Winnipeg’s new airport is a source of pride for the Winnipeg community, and with good reason. Within a year of sharing its transparent, luminous pavilions with the world, CBC News deemed it “One of the Top 10 Airports in the World,” London’s The Daily Telegraph called it one of “The World’s Most Stylish Airports,” and the Travel Channel considered it one of the “World’s Most Iconic Airports.”
The building is a stunning celebration inside and out of the prairie landscape that surrounds it, but it also serves as a vivid commitment to preserving that landscape. The airport received the prestigious 2011 Airports Going Green Award from the Chicago Department of Aviation for its industry-leading approach to sustainable design. One of the first LEED Silver airport terminal buildings in North America, the new terminal’s projected energy savings are equivalent to the average annual energy consumption of 2,000 Canadian households, along with an emissions reduction comparable to removing 1,500 cars from the road.
It seems the new terminal is making an impact in just the right way.
