Mackenzie Health - Operational Readiness Services

The City of Vaughan is one of Canada’s fastest growing cities and the growing population needs access to high-quality health care. Mackenzie Health, the health system serving western York Region, needed to provide increased access to health care closer to home for the residents in its catchment area and beyond. The new Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital was the answer, and they engaged us to help.

Our team provided P3 scheduling and advisory support closely coordinated with operational readiness planning and advisory services. Partnering with the hospital’s capital redevelopment and operational teams, we provided construction-stage scheduling support, risk management and mitigation strategies, operational readiness planning, progress monitoring and issue resolution advice.

Our Operational Readiness team helped provide training and orientation support, day-in-the-life simulations support, and guided development of a due diligence checklist to demonstrate to the Board, readiness to proceed to opening the new hospital. When the COVID-19 pandemic hit in February 2021, the hospital was ready to partially open to relieve some of the capacity challenges Ontario faced. In June later that year, the hospital fully opened to the community.

Cortellucci Vaughn Hospital is the first hospital to be built in Vaughan and the first net new hospital to be built in Ontario in more than 30 years.
