Developing new infrastructure in a rapidly growing residential community
As southwest Winnipeg expanded, the city needed to develop infrastructure that would keep up with the needs of the growing population in the area. Lowes had been considering adding their business to the expanding community since 2012—when the time was right, they chose our team to help make that dream a reality.
In 2015, our team completed a geotechnical investigation in support of the new proposed Lowe's store. 30 test holes were drilled within the footprint of the proposed building and the associated parking lot areas, collecting grab and shelby tube samples. We also performed a laboratory testing program on sil samples to determine the relevant engineering properties of the subsurface materials. From there, our geotechnical engineering team worked with Lowes during the design phase, performing comprehensive geotechnical investigation and quality assurance during construction of the store.
With construction starting in May 2017, our team was kept on board to provide material testing services and quality control from earthworks, utility services, foundations, and asphalt and concrete production as well as steel and rebar inspection. The result? Lowes is now a vital part of the neighborhood, providing trusted products and lots of new jobs to the community.
