Triaging damage to the RMMB’s wastewater and stormwater infrastructure and overseeing recovery efforts
In any emergency, quick, effective action is critical. During April 2020, our rapid response to the Ice Jam Flood helped mitigate severe damage to the wastewater and stormwater systems. With our boots on the ground approach, Stantec team members from many sectors came together to assist the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo (RMWB) in getting downtown Fort McMurray back online.
We mobilized all areas of our business, including the geospatial, community development, water, transportation, and environmental services teams to ensure all aspects of flood recovery and disaster response were addressed throughout the process. Deployment of dewatering pumps, emergency access roads, and outfall inspections limited the disruption to RMWB infrastructure. As the waters receded, focus shifted to recovery and 24-hour sewer inspection and cleaning efforts to remove accumulated debris in the sanitary and storm sewers.
Our team’s hard work allowed Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo to get their water and wastewater treatment functioning and the community on the road to recovery.
