Flood protection to prevent harmful impacts

Floods can be dangerous and potentially life threatening in parts of Queensland. As such, road maintenance and upgrades that address current and future flood risks are imperative. Moreton Bay Regional Council (MBRC) recognizing the risk to their community and engaged our team to undertake flood modelling in accordance with their design criteria.

We sized the proposed downstream channel, rationalised the proposed culverts at the crossing, and looked into the form loss coefficients through the existing two bridges. Our findings helped us determine the flood immunity of the proposed road, assess the impacts a flood event would cause, and propose impact mitigation measures.

Key to the solution? Rock and erosion protection works and channel widening outside of bridge piers. The Council now feels confident that—should a natural disaster occur—they will have the measures in place to protect their community from harm.
