Creating community in the Cornell subdivision
New urbanism was the goal in the subdivision site owned by Mattamy Homes. Mattamy and the City of Markham, Ontario, wanted to create a high-density residential option, and they asked us for support.
Located in the Cornell community, the area has around a thousand lots—townhomes, semi-detached, and detached homes, all with garages and laneways at rear.
And the Council’s main goal? They wanted to make sure that the subdivision had all essential amenities right in the community. This meant a hospital, a state-of-the-art community center, schools, and retail. There are also great parks, two of which are set up with outdoor ice rinks during the winter. Future plans include a massive park of over 30 acres.
We completed functional servicing reports, detailed engineering design, stormwater management, grading and earthworks design, and contract administration.
Working in conjunction with the City of Markham, Region of York, Ministry of Environment and the Toronto Region Conservation Authority, Stantec took a collaborative approach to complete this project in a timely and cost sensitive manner.
