Venturing to create one of the world's largest integrated carbon capture and storage project
SaskPower had an ambitious plan: to build the world’s first and, at the time, largest integrated carbon capture and storage project to demonstrate the technical, economic, and environmental merits of carbon capture and storage technology to the world.
Stantec is pleased to have worked with SaskPower throughout the duration of this project, assisting with a study of existing and emerging post-combustion carbon capture technologies, as well as projected environmental standards, anticipated benchmarks, and regulatory variables.
The Boundary Dam Integrated Carbon Capture and Storage Demonstration Project is designed to capture one million metric tons of carbon dioxide annually, and with the upgrades completed on Boundary Dam generating Unit #3 it is expected that the life of the unit will be extended by 30 years.
While the pioneering aspect of this project is inspiring, we are driven by the impact our work will foster as it relates to this project, both at home and abroad. This project will assist in advancing carbon capture and storage technologies, and will assist global power industry to similarly reduce their GHG emissions.
