By using the sun’s renewable energy, this large solar farm will help reduce the carbon intensity of the local electrical grid
Amazon, online retailing giant, signed a deal with Canadian Solar for the supply of renewable energy for its Australian operations via the Gunnedah Solar Farm. The project will accommodate a largescale solar PV system utilising single axis tracking and ground mounted bifacial solar panels to generate energy throughout the day.
Stantec was retained by PCL to provide civil, electrical, and structural engineering services. An overhead transmission system connects the solar PV system to the TransGrid electrical grid, and includes system isolation switches, electrical protection equipment, station service supply, and revenue metering. We selected single axis tracking for this project to harness the highest amount of solar irradiance possible, as the panels will track the east to west movement of the sun each day. Our scope also included several studies and permitting along with project management, construction, and commissioning support.
By connecting into the grid, this solar farm produces energy that helps reduce the carbon intensity of local electricity. This large solar farm will not only allow Amazon to consume energy more responsibly, but also provide power for other businesses and residences in the area.
