Building with sustainable solutions
When the Bunnings Leppington project set out to achieve a five-star Green Star rating, our team was there to help make it happen.
We provided sustainability, mechanical and acoustic services through detailed modeling to assess thermal comfort and optimize the mixed-mode operation of the ventilation, heating, and cooling systems. To measure the project’s embodied carbon emissions and broader environmental impacts, we undertook a lifecycle assessment. The project adopted the use of ultra-low variant of concern (VOC) paints, carpets made from 100% recycled materials, and third party certified engineered wood products that met the Green Star formaldehyde emissions limits.
Our team also completed a climate change risk assessment which found high temperatures within the building to be the most significant risk to the site and developed adaptation measures that would respond to these risks including the assessment of the project’s thermal comfort through detailed modeling. We were able to achieve a significant reduction in greenhouse gas emissions with a 300-kilowatt solar photovoltaic array and energy efficient lighting and HVAC systems.
This project successfully achieved a five-star Green Star Design & As Built v1.3 rating, receiving almost all the targeted points in the Round 1 submission. The project has achieved all its goals with both client and stakeholders happy with its timely success.
