Complex electrical design powers new international airport hub in Toowoomba
Toowoomba Wellcamp Airport in Queensland lies west of Brisbane and is the first greenfield public airport to be constructed in almost five decades, providing a jet-capable facility for the region’s fast-growing population. Our team was engaged to design and deliver the acoustic and electrical elements for terminal building construction.
Working on a greenfield site, consideration was given to the essential uninterruptible power supply, including the high voltage systems within the airport boundary, low voltage distribution, and backup generator. Our design also interfaces between the air-side lighting systems fuel farm adjacent to the terminal and the upstream high voltage site-wide systems. Metering was included along with external and internal lighting and lighting protection. Within the terminal, we addressed the public address, emergency warning and intercommunication system, and telephone systems including hearing augmentation. Fire detection and data communication designs were also provided.
The privately-owned public airport is now registered as an International Airport and Regional International Gateway with the potential to become a major air freight hub to benefit the Toowoomba region.
