Surveying GovHub for a revitalised Central Business District
When it comes to planning and designing buildings, surveying the site is one of the first crucial steps we take. This was the case for constructing the Ballarat GovHub—a five-storey office building that is the new home for up to one thousand Victorian government employees. Completed in April 2021, the building features large windows in the north and south sides; a reconstructed ground floor with a café or bar, gallery, or live music venue; two basement-level car parks and end-of-trip facilities to encourage walking and cycling; pedestrian links to Ballarat Central Business District (CBD) and the Ballarat train station; a civic plaza; a central plaza; and a glass conservatory that links GovHub with the Civic Hall.
Construction of the GovHub began in early 2019. The builders engaged us early in the project for monitoring and setout for all stages, right up until the final Net Lettable Area (NLA) surveys. We provided survey services, including setout for construction—marking the location of critical walls and features such as concrete slab location, lift, and concrete pillars on the site using laser scanning for design and construct of facades and steel work—and preparation of NLA surveys for the $100 million building.
We were there at the beginning with our survey services and now the GovHub is on track to help revitalize the CBD, providing the community with new jobs and a place to gather.
