The wall dates back over 100 years but collapsed in 2016.
After the Trinity Pier wall collapsed a few years ago, Homes England commissioned us to provide ground investigation, structural designs, ecology assessments, and marine licensing for the wall’s reconstruction. Once those services were complete, we’d work on construction project management.
First, we developed a reconstruction design based on a mass concrete gravity wall with a decorative stone cladding finish to match surrounding sections of wall. Our designs were based around the constraints posed by working in the tidal environment within a busy marina and close to the sensitive ecological environment of Plymouth Sound.
Work initially included divers to clear and prepare the formation surface. After that, it was intertidal works over the lower sections of the wall before a dry working environment was established. The project included installation of replacement marina pontoons and associated guiderails, whilst working closely with the marina operator to ensure the replacement facilities met with the requirements and expectations of the berth-holders.
The wall reconstruction was delivered on a three-month timeframe that prioritized completion before the busy months of summer sailing.
