Planning approval for the retail and leisure elements of a major, mixed use expansion of Thorpe Park business park
Based on the eastern edge of Leeds, a brand-new development has been kick-started following the successful revision of a dated planning permission.
The Thorpe Park development will include retail shops, hotels, food and drink outlets, and a gym. Previously, only the office element of the development had planning permission, and new offices had not come forward because of the downturn in the economy. The mixed-use space will facilitate the Manston Lane Link Road (MLLR), a critically important piece of highway infrastructure. As well as relieving present congestion, the MLLR will become part of the East Leeds Orbital Route (ELOR) which will open up the East Leeds Extension, where 6,000 dwellings and other land uses are planned.
In addition to delivering substantial growth and economic development to Leeds and the surrounding community, the scheme will deliver Green Park, the first new public park in Leeds for over 100 years. The 113-acre Green Park will connect into the 25-acre parkland running through Thorpe Park through to woodland at Brown Moor, creating a new green corridor including sports pitches and formal landscapes sitting alongside more informal spaces.
