Via an employment land review, we advised Tower Hamlets on how to maximize economic benefits flowing from the Isle of Dogs and the City Fringe
Home to several global businesses, the Isle of Dogs is part of the London Borough of Tower Hamlets. Recently, the Isle has seen public transport investment that helps facilitate economic growth. So, how does the borough maximize these benefits? Through an employment land review (ELR), we helped the local council identify how it could best take advantage of job opportunities that will flow from its global importance and recent substantial public transport investment.
We balanced competing pressures for limited land resources in the Borough, reinforcing the need to retain a long-term view on the provision of land to meet future office demand. We identified land and expanded sites to meet this need and prepared viability evidence to support the council’s affordable workspace policy. The aim? To provide future opportunities for emerging businesses in the borough.
The local plan inspector said “The ELR provides a comprehensive and objective assessment of the future requirements for employment provision across the Borough during the plan period. The evidence base as a whole is both robust and conforms with the wider approach to economic growth set out within the London Plan.”
