Preparing a public funding application to support levelling up efforts
Looking to breathe new life into Drumchapel town centre, Glasgow City Council (GCC) had plans to revitalise the area and boost the local economy. The project aims to deliver enhanced community facilities, improve accessibility and connectivity by bringing new walking and cycling routes as well as innovative projects to tackle flooding issues and further develop local greenspace. GCC engaged our Development Economics team to help secure funding that would make the project a reality.
To support the scheme, the Council and our team developed a bid that successfully secured £15 million in funding in the third round of the Levelling Up Fund—the UK Government’s programme to invest in infrastructure that improves residents’ everyday life by regenerating town centres, upgrading local transport, and investing in cultural and heritage assets. GCC’s scheme links to community hub investment proposed for the area and will include public realms and active travel improvements to create new walking and cycling routes.
Now fully funded, GCC’s scheme can be developed to provide economic, environmental, and social benefits for the entire local community in Drumchapel.
