My Stantec Story: Ed Higgins

March 11, 2025

In the My Stantec Story series, our designers, engineers, marketers, project managers, and leaders come together to share how their career journeys at Stantec have shaped their lives and moved them closer to their goals.

Tell us about your role…

As an associate landscape architect at Stantec, my role involves a combination of leadership, design innovation, and collaboration within multidisciplinary teams. I work closely with architects, urban planners, engineers, and environmental consultants to create meaningful, sustainable, and impactful landscapes. These integrated designs address the complex needs of our clients and communities.

What attracted you to a career at Stantec?

Ultimately, my role is to inspire creativity and champion collaboration, so the design of public and private spaces is done thoughtfully, inclusively, and sustainably. Stantec has a strong portfolio and diverse range of project work which allows me to put this to practice in many ways.

What do you enjoy most about your role?

One of the most rewarding aspects of my role is applying my understanding of the profound impact that thoughtful design can have on a community. Whether designing a park, public plaza, streetscape, or campus, I’m mindful of how our work affects the people who live, work, and play in these spaces. We listen to interested parties in the community, understand their needs, and incorporate their input into the design. This process not only creates spaces that are functional and beautiful but also fosters a sense of ownership and pride within the community.

How has your personal and professional development been supported at Stantec?

To date, my career to date at Stantec has been fast paced and enjoyable. Throughout my professional journey, I’ve been supported by team members. I have the right level of encouragement from senior colleagues and leadership team that pushes me into areas I’m interested in—and they help me successfully deliver project work.

What has been the standout project for you during your time at Stantec?

A standout project for me was working on an EV battery facility in the South West of England. It gave me the opportunity to contribute to the masterplanning and detailed design of a large-scale infrastructure scheme. We delivered a proposal that benefitted the local community whilst providing enjoyable areas for those who will work there—hopefully, for many generations to come.

Whether designing a park, public plaza, streetscape, or campus, I’m mindful of how our work affects the people who live, work, and play in these spaces.

What are your ambitions for your future at Stantec?

The future I envision for myself at Stantec is to be part of an inspiring landscape architecture team that has high ambitions to create beautiful, thoughtful designs that have a lasting impact on the communities we serve.

What are your passions outside of work?

Away from work, I’m an avid Manchester United fan. (Sorry!) And I’m a keen piano player who loves all music.

Why should others join the Stantec team?

Join the Stantec team and you’ll be part of an exciting, supportive team with a diverse range of skills that you can learn quickly from. You’ll take part in meaningful, varied work on some of the largest UK and international infrastructure projects.

At Stantec, we put people first. For Ed, that means making a lasting impact with thoughtful, sustainable, and beautiful landscape design.
