Designing an advanced medical facility to improve service delivery and enhance staff efficiencies

Uniontown Hospital, a community-based, technologically advanced medical facility wanted to improve service delivery and enhance staff efficiencies. Their idea was a new patient care addition—something that emphasized patient comfort and staff convenience.

The design included an expanded emergency department, consolidated outpatient services, a new chiller plant and electrical service entry, and 56 private rooms.

One major challenge during construction was keeping the existing emergency department open and fully functioning. Located on the ground floor, the department was remodeled to provide a new walk-in entrance, enhanced triage capability, and an expanded clinical area with additional exam and treatment rooms.

The exterior design creates a new main entrance for the entire hospital, featuring the welcome respite of a wellness garden and a glass enclosed stair tower that acts as a beacon for patients and families.
