Critical water infrastructure supports a healthy economy and quality of life.
The Southern Delivery System is a regional water supply program that delivers water from the Arkansas River to residents and businesses in four partner communities—City of Colorado Springs, City of Fountain, Security Water District, and Pueblo West Metropolitan District. The program was needed to develop additional conveyance and treatment capacity in the existing water supply infrastructure, provide an additional method of delivery for Colorado Springs’ western slope water supply, assure capacity for the region’s growth, and enhance drought resilience.
We provided program and construction management services as part of a co-located, integrated team. Core program components include over 60 miles of predominately 66-inch-diameter pipeline plus over 1 mile of 90-inch-diameter intake pipeline, 3 raw water pump stations, a new 50-mgd water treatment plant and finished water pump station, power supply facilities, and environmental and other mitigation projects to meet permit requirements.
In collaboration with Colorado Springs Utilities, we implemented an innovative public involvement program tailored to the client’s dynamic political and regulatory environment. With the program now complete, the community will have a water source they can rely on for decades to come.
