Redeveloping an RV campground to current standards allows continued communion with nature
Loon Lake in California is renowned for its beauty. As a result, it is a popular destination for campers and recreational vehicles. Located at the Loon Lake Reservoir, the facilities at Northshore RV Campground needed upgrading to meet current United States Department of Agriculture – Forest Service standards for design, accessibility, and environmental impact. Among the items for upgrading were roadways, campsites, water system, vault toilet structures, and storm drainage systems.
The design process included 3D renderings using Infraworks software and unmanned aerial vehicle data acquisition. This data informed the design, and our team presented the plan to the client and the U.S. Forest Service (USFS) using innovative graphics to incorporate data and show how the final project will look within the existing topography.
With so much demand for recreational resources in the area, facilities like campgrounds must work to integrate with the landscape as well as meet environmental regulations. Using technologies like unmanned aerial systems paired with advanced design software can help operators create campgrounds that provide an appealing interaction with nature while limiting impact.
