LA Metro’s Purple Line extension connects Downtown to Miracle Mile and Westside
The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (LA Metro or Metro) wanted to connect Downtown with Westside, the second-largest job center in the region. At $3.5 billion, the Section 1 Purple Line (D Line) Extension stands as one of Southern California’s most regionally significant infrastructure projects. Such a large project requires a large, well-structured team. Metro engaged us as the construction management consultant to lead the Westside Extension Support Team (WEST) joint venture.
Operating as part of a fully integrated team with Metro, we oversaw and managed the mainline and utility contracts, facilitated construction relations, and provided quality and safety oversight. We also conducted ongoing and regular noise monitoring to address community concerns about construction noise impacts on nearby residential and business area. Overall, the clear chain of communication we established allowed for early identification of issues and suggestions for resolutions without impact to the schedule.
Moving beneath LA’s most heavily traveled boulevards, this line extension will provide an affordable alternative to congested roadways, bringing with it significant environmental benefits and economic development throughout the county. Angelenos and visitors will be able to easily travel to and from Westside’s popular work, play, and stay destinations.
