Implementing a fast-track remedial investigation for a prestigious carriage factory
Our client saw potential. The Carriage Factory building in Rochester, NY, has had a long and impressive history. As a cornerstone of local industry, it’s stood in the neighborhood since circa 1900. Though it had been neglected for 20 years, DePaul knew that it could become an amazing residential project.
We implemented a fast-track remedial investigation (RI) concurrent with site development construction—and that’s when we hit the snag. The RI and site work revealed significant soil impacts that hadn’t been thoroughly characterized in others’ prior investigations.
Our solution? Working with the NYSDEC, we removed approximately 8,700 tons of soil impacted by solvents, petroleum, and metals. Other services included designing a sub-slab piping system to manage impacted groundwater as well as designing a vapor barrier and sub-slab depressurization system.
The project received a Certificate of Completion from NYSDEC allowing for $2M in brownfield tax credits. The Carriage Factory apartments now provide a classic, historic touch to living in the Susan B. Anthony neighborhood.
