Designing a transit hub that supports Foothill Transit Ridership and the City of Covina
When the City of Covina developed the Covina Forward Initiative, it promised a focused commitment to create a “vibrant hometown of the future”—a place that would provide an exceptional place to live, learn, work, and play. Part of this plan involved the Foothill Transit Covina Transit Center and Park and Ride. Our team was engaged to provide a variety of services to design the transit center, retail building, parking structure, plaza, and streetscape components.
We worked closely with Foothill Transit and the City’s public outreach consultants to provide a parking structure and transit center that is sensitive to nearby concerns regarding privacy, traffic, noise, and vagrancy. Not only did we find a design and landscape that eased community angst, but we provided an efficient and attractive design through the use of connective pathways, a public plaza, and the transit plaza with bus bays.
The result? The new transit center will bridge the gap between the residential parcel and the City’s future civic development while serving Foothill Transit’s riders.
