Helping maintain global standards with a consistent design approach across North America
A large technology client hired us to provide peer review and design services for one of their hyperscale data centers—a facility that houses essential computer and network infrastructure that supports large amounts of data. They engaged us to provide design and construction administration for multiple hyperscale data center sites across the United States and invited us to be part of their global design team to help maintain their global standards and provide a consistent design approach throughout North America.
Our design of all sites is based on the same master design with local site adaptations. Each site consists of various data center buildings, with each building encompassing about 500,000 square feet (46,500 square metres). All data center buildings deliver 30-plus megawatts of IT load split across approximately 185,000 square feet (17,187 square metres) of white space, the space for IT equipment. Single-story data halls include an adjacent exterior generator yard, with a new substation provided for each site. An adjacent administrative building complements each data center structure and consists of office areas, amenity areas, storage areas, and shipping and receiving space. Our design provided a comprehensive PLC-based building management system (BMS), ensuring an optimal control and monitoring solution for the facility’s mechanical and electrical systems.
By maintaining their global standards for a consistent design strategy, the client can harmonize the function of multiple hyperscale data center sites across North America.
