Utilizing digital technology to improve the asset management process
The City of Lorain Utilities Department (LUD) wanted to improve their asset inventory and asset-risk management processes for their water and wastewater asset management improvement project. They reached out to our asset management and geographic information system (GIS) specialists to help.
Our team is working with engineering and operations and maintenance personnel to develop and deliver a data-driven, risk-based, decision support system (DSS) for asset prioritization, maintenance programs, and capital planning for their conveyance systems. Additionally, we’re helping LUD incorporate the use of digital technology including Cityworks and ArcGIS software. Through Cityworks, LUD personnel will be able to use existing data to assess the likelihood of failure and consequence of failure for current assets as well as conduct spatial analysis from multiple data sets. Our enhancements to ArcGIS include the implementation of Utility Network, a tool that aides in water outage management.
When complete, LUD will have a repeatable, practical, and data-driven asset management processes in place to effectively assess, prioritize, and maintain their assets for years to come.
