Cape Coral Southwest Water Reclamation Facilities (SWWRF)
Constructed in 1995, the original operations building at the Southwest Water Reclamation Facilities (SWWRF) had been deemed uninhabitable due to safety concerns. With their wastewater operators working out of a trailer, the City of Cape Coral knew they needed to act. They reached out to our team to design two new buildings for the site.
The Operations and Maintenance Building is a two-story building that replaces the existing, abandoned building. We located Maintenance on the first floor and dedicated the second floor to Administration and Operations. With structural resilience in mind for this south Florida coastal building, the exterior materials include tilt-wall concrete construction and a covered area on the second floor for a generator and mechanical equipment.
The second building we designed for the site is a Generator Storage Building, which is a pre-engineered metal building with large canopies running the length of each side of the building to provide cover for portable generators. A bridge crane runs the length of the interior of the building.
These new buildings will allow SWWRF’s employees to safely continue operations whatever the weather—including Category 4 hurricanes and their associated storm surges.
