A 40-acre sports park for the youth of Travis County, Texas
Following a decade of booming population, Travis County, Texas, faced a skyrocketing demand on existing youth sports programming. As a remedy, the County purchased a 70-acre (28-hectare) site with a voter-approved-bond. They engaged us to provide the master planning and design for their new Bee Creek Sports Complex.
Early in the design process, our team gathered input from the community. Neighbors voiced their needs for facilities to host youth soccer, little league, and softball tournaments as well as youth football and lacrosse programs. Keeping the community’s requests in mind, we transformed 40 acres (16 hectares) of buildable land above the creek into a new sports park that hosts these activities. With seven multipurpose fields for youth sports teams, the park’s field surfaces are a safe, high-performance synthetic turf that helps combat Central Texas’ temperatures. The site’s natural beauty is protected with dark-sky lighting and stormwater management.
Bee Creek Sports Complex also provides a basketball court, restrooms, team meeting building, and maintenance facilities. And the public is welcome—to enjoy the playground, community building, numerous walking and biking trails, and an area for food trucks.
